if I hear a grown-ass adult reminiscing about how they just want to be a kid again! No responsibilities! No jobs! No bills! Because you know what? Being a kid sucks. So if you’re a grown-ass adult and you’re like, “I wish I was a kid again!” that is usually a pretty good hint that as an adult, you have some regressive issues that I don’t want to deal with.

I had a great childhood and all I wanted to do is be a teenager, and when I was in middle school I wanted to be in high school, and then I wanted to be in college, and then I wanted to be out of college. Since I was about 8, people have told me to not “wish my life away” because I’d be older and REGRET NOT LIVING IN THE PRESENT.

Ha! Those people are wrong. I love being an adult! I love the autonomy of being a grown-up. I know that being a functioning adult means responsibilities but it also means FREEDOM. I’m not talking about the revolutionary type of freedom like they want in Egypt. I’m talking about the joyous mundane things that you choose to do because you WANT TO AND NO ONE CAN TELL YOU OTHERWISE. I’m going to eat gummy bears and drink wine for dinner and stay up all night watching tv! I’m going to spend all day in bed and then go out for some shopping and eat at nice/crappy/delicious/whatever restaurant I want! I’m going to go for a walk and buy a vibrator and drink margaritas!

And yes, we have adult-type worries like bills, health insurance, rent, 401(k), knowing about all the crap in the world and humanity’s capacity for truly depraved acts. But I think it’s a fair trade-off so that I can Tumblr in my bathrobe and then go buy a vibrator and no one is going to tell me to go to stop wasting time and go practice the piano before soccer practice.
