Do you ever think about the fact that the US has created and legitimized a system of institutionalized inequality by funding schools through property taxes? That basically a child’s education is only as good as the value of the property in their neighborhood. Funny how education is so often viewed as an equalizing factor when there is nothing equal about it.
oops.

From Andrew, James and Laura
I’ve left AM!. No drama here. I reached a point where I need to focus on other things. Respect to Laura and James. The last 10 years ruled. -Andrew
It’s been an honor and privilege to stand on stage with Andrew for the past 10 years. I am sad to see him go, but I wish nothing but the best for him moving forward. – James
It’s heartbreaking to know that Andrew won’t be standing next to me out on stage the next time I stand upon one.
I realize that at this point there’s a possibility that it may look pretty ridiculous to carry on playing under the name Against Me!
If I didn’t feel like I had something that I really needed to say with the album we’ve been working on for the past year then I’d humbly hang the hat and move on.
Andrew’s been a solid partner. Some of the best sleep I’ve ever gotten has been in the back of a 15 passenger van with him behind the wheel. He’s got a steady hand and has always been someone I’ve trusted. The definition of a good friend. I wish him all the best in his journey. -LJ

How segregated is Charlotte?
wcnc:
From The Atlantic Cities:
Recently, Sophie Litschwartz found that many of our larger metro areas with large black populations are only slightly more integrated than they were a few decades ago. Meanwhile, smaller metros with small black populations have been integrating at a much more rapid pace.
Why this is occurring remains a mystery.
What you can see from the interactive map above is that the Charlotte metro area is less segregated than it was in 1970. You can also select 268 other metro areas in the study.

"You killed my son and now you are giving me a tree?"
An Iraqi farmer to Peter Van Buren of the US State Department after his team tried to give away fruit tree seedlings to replant ruined orchards. (via ambitioussurvival)
The death perpetuated by these fucking wars is going to haunt the U.S. for generations - as it should. Anyone who doesn’t feel the weight of 1,000,000 dead Iraqi citizens needs to get a heart implant.

I wonder if my happily married, middle-aged, South American intellectual neighbor knows that I’m, like, in love with him to a truly stupid degree.
(jk he doesn’t know.)
